May 15, 1958 - Norway

A Soviet TU-16 "Badger" bomber buzzed USS Essex (CVS-9) and her escorts off northern Norway.  After a low pass on Essex, the wingtip of the Badger clipped a wave, and the plane cartwheeled into the sea with no survivors.
