Raeo (S. P. 588)

1917-1919

This vessel retained the name she carried at the time of her acquisition.

(S. P. 588: tonnage 46; length 73'; beam 15'; draft 4'11"; speed 10.5 knots; complement 12; armament 1 1-pounder, 1 machine gun)

Raeo, built in 1908 at City Island, N.Y., by the City Island Shipbuilding Co., was purchased by the Navy from W. Schall, New York City, given the identification number S. P. 588; and was commissioned on 19 May 1917.

Throughout World War I, Raeo operated on section patrol out of Newport, R.I., with the forces of the Second Naval District. Transferred to the Bureau of Fisheries on 17 October 1919, she was stricken from the Navy list on 21 October 1919.
