NHF-016 USS Noa Mercury Recovery Collection

22 photographs taken on board USS Noa (DD-841) during the recovery operations of the Mercury (Space Program) capsule “Friendship 7”, and its pilot, Lieutenant Colonel John H. Glenn, USMC, on 20 February 1962. Images include photographs of the ship, activities during the recovery operations, ship’s officers (unidentified), ship’s C.O., Commander John D. Exum, USN, shipboard views and views showing Lieutenant Colonel Glenn signing autographs, etc., and posing for snapshots with the ship’s officers.  Collection also includes correspondence regarding the collection itself, Glenn’s arrival on board and there is also a packet of information on the ship and on the Friendship 7 mission which was drawn up and put together for members of the press covering the event.
