October-November 2012 - Hurricane Sandy

To assist the relief efforts at New York and New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy in October and November 2012, the U.S. Navy dispatched USS Wasp (LHD-1), USS San Antonio (LPD-17), and USS Carter Hall (LSD-5). Also assisting in the relief efforts were the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 202, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB-5), Navy Mobile Construction Battalion 11 (NMCB-11), Composite Riverine Squadron 4 (CRS-4), Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2 (MDSU-2), and Underwater Construction Team 1 (UCT-1). Relief operations were completed mid-month.

Some of the areas worked on: general support thoughout the region, repairs of the Hoboken Ferry Terminal and the Sandy Hook Coast Guard Station, emergency clearance and restoration efforts in Staten Island, New York and New Jersey's Barrier Islands, and dewatering efforts at Rockaway Beach, New York, Staten Island, and at locations in the vicinity of the World Trade Center Memorial.
