Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of the Establishment of the National Museum of the U.S. Navy
On October 17, 1987, the Navy Museum (now National Museum of the U.S. Navy) held celebrations for its 25th Anniversary. Established by Admiral Arleigh A. Burke, Chief of Naval Operations in 1963, the museum held a series of events and showcased the history of the U.S. Navy to visitors across the D.C. region. Some of the events were craft-making, and shooting of cannons along the Anacostia River, a speaking engagement, followed with a celebration cake. The Director at the time was Oscar D. Fitzgerald, Ph.D.
