1943: August 9:  Sinking of German U-boat, U-664

TBF "Avenger" aircraft from USS Card (CVE-11) sank German (Type VIIC) U-boat,U-664, in the North Atlantic on August 9, 1943.  USS Borie (DD-215) assisted in rescuing survivors after seven hours in the water.  During her war patrols, U-664 sank three Allied vessels, including United States merchant ship, SS Rosario, on February 21, 1943.
