1943: August 7:  Attack on German U-boat, U-84

German (Type VIIB) U-boat, U-84, was sunk in the North Atlantic, southwest of Bermuda by a Fido homing torpedo fired from a PB4Y "Liberator" aircraft from Bombing Squadron One Hundred Five (VB-105) on August 7, 1943.  Six Allied merchant ships were sunk and one damaged by the U-boat, including two American vessels:  SS Andrew Jackson and SS William Cullen Bryant.  Of note, Panamaian ship, SS Chenango, was sunk on April 21, 1942.  An image of two survivors is included below.
