Caption: Philippine Invasion, 1941-42. Prisoners of General Douglas MacArthur’s men, these three Japanese aviators were shot down in December 1941 while bombing the open city of Manila during the early stages of the war in the Philippines. The Japanese aviator at the right suffered a broken arm. This picture was one of the first pictures received of the war in the Philippines. The Philippines would fall in the spring of 1942 to the Japanese, and U.S. would not return until October 1944 Office of War Information photograph. Courtesy of the Library of Congress. (2015/10/2).
