80-G-285083:  Battle of the Sibuyan Sea, October 24, 1944.   ARM2 John L. Carver, behind his gun after landing on carrier in Pacific after successful bombing of the Japanese battleship Yamato.   Yamato was later sunk by U.S. Navy aircraft on April 7, 1945. This bombing was probably from aircraft based onboard USS Essex (CV-9).     Photograph released October 25, 1944.  U.S. Navy photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.  (2016/03/15).
