26-G-2432: Normandy Invasion, German Prisoners, June 1944

26-G-2432: Normandy Invasion, German Prisoners, June 1944. The Awakening. On Board a U.S. Coast manned troop transport headed for the United States, two Nazi prisoners present a picture of downcast disillusion as they hungrily munch the first white bread they have tasted in many months. Captured in the irresistible Yankee push from the Normandy beaches toward Cherbourg, these ex-supermen have been rudely awakened from mad Hitlerite dreams of world conquest. The first shipment of hundreds of Nazis captured in France has just arrived at an Atlantic port, June 1944. U.S. Coast Guard Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (11/18/2014).
