26-G-102143-5:   German U-boat, U-701, July 1942.  .   U-701 was sunk in the North Atlantic off Cape Hatteras by depth charges from a USAAF German Hudson on July 7, 1942.    Seven survivors including the Captain, Horst Degen, were taken as prisoner of war.   German sailor Mechanikersegefreiter Bruno Faust is lifted aboard a Coast Guard vessel.   Commander Richard L. Burke, Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Air Station, Elizabeth City, was awarded his second Distinguished Flying Cross for landing his seaplane in rough conditions to rescue the U-701 surivivors.
