Sinking of German U-boat, U-175, April 17, 1943

On April 17, 1943, German (Type IXC) u-boat, U-175, was sunk by depth charges and gunfire from USCGC Spencer (WPG-36) in the North Atlantic, south-west of Ireland.   Thirteen of her crew died and 41 survived.   Previously, the German submarine sank 10 merchant vessels, including five from the United States.
