1942:  July 15:   Attack on American tanker, SS Pennsylvania Sun

On July 15, 1942, German (Type VIIC) U-boat, U-571, attacked American motor tanker SS Pennsylvania Sun off Key West, Florida.   The survivors were picked-up by USS Dahlgren (DD-187).  Repairs were completed to Pennsylvania Sun in 1943, and she served for the next 20 years.   Australian Sunderland aircraft sank the German submarine on January 28, 1944, in the North Atlantic, west of Ireland.
