80-G-343556:    Allied Prisoners of War,  September 1945.    At Matsuyama Airport, Formosa, Japan, three liberated POWs, veterans of years of imprisonment in Japanese hands, greet their rescuers.   Left to right:    1.  Private First Class John B. Denver, USA, MC, captured at Bataan, when he became too weak to attend his patients, was beaten until one arm was broken.  He bears scars.   2.   Captain Wilfred F. Heinback, USA, MC.   3.   Technical Sargent Arlando Stevens, USA, MC, captured on 9 April 1942.     Since 15 August, they were given extra food and liberty and gained up to 30 pounds.   Clothes were dropped by US Army B-29s in late August.   Photographed by Photographer’s Mate First Class T.K.
