127-GW-983-83830:  Battle of Cape Gloucester, New Britain, December 1943-January 1944.  Lieutenant James J. Fitzgerald, ChC, USNR, stands before a Marine made palm leaf altar on Cape Gloucester.  He served with the same Marine outfit in both the Guadalcanal and Cape Gloucester campaigns.  He was known as Father Fitz by the troops.  Photograph by Howard, 9 April 1944.
