80-G-54414:   Battle of Anzio, January-June 1944.   German Prisoners at the Anzio Beachhead below Rome, on their way to prison camp.  Sporting an Iron Cross on his jacket, this Nazi prisoner of war poses for a camera study onboard the LST bearing him to a behind-the-lines prison camp.  A veteran of 260 missions in less than 2 years, this English-speaking fighter pilot is 27 years old – he still believed in the ultimate Nazi victory.  Photograph released February 17, 1944.
