<p>80-G-43652: Sinking of German U-boat, U-405. USS Borie (DD 215) will never fly this Presidential Unit Citation awarded for her gallant action sinking German submarine U 405 on November 1, 1943. Gaping holes in her hull forced other members of her Task Unit to sink her. Resting atop the sub, her guns peppered the U-boat from ranges of 10 to 40 feet. Skippers of various units of the task unit are shown on the flight deck of USS Card (CVE-11) as they inspected the pennant.
