German Army

At the outbreak of war in August 1914, the Chief of the German General Staff was Helmuth von Moltke the Younger.  Due to ill health, he was replaced in September by Erich von Falkenhayn.   After the Battle of Verdun, the Chief of the German General Staff was replaced by Paul von Hindenburg in August 1916.   The German Army was dissolved in July 1919 after the Peace Treaty at Versailles.
