330-PSA-203-64 (USN 1105429): Operation Sea Orbit, 1964. It’s excusable that she’s a little seasick. After all, until she went aboard the USS Enterprise (CVAN-65) in Sydney, Australia, “Matilda” had never been to sea…or even seen a ship! Matilda is the unofficial name given to the two-year old, 40 pound kangaroo, as a tribute to Australia since the country’s “unofficial” national anthem is “Waltzing Matilda”, and she is a gift for the Lafayette Park Zoo in Norfolk, Virginia, from Australia. After Commander F.H. Austin, Enterprise’s Senior Medical Officer diagnosed Matilda’s case a slight seasickness, she began feeling better and is reportedly enjoying her voyage with the nuclear task force.
