80-G-707012: Midshipman Wesley Brown, June 1949. Brown is selecting reference books for first class term paper in the library, released June 3, 1949. Note, Brown was the first African-American to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy and served as a Civil Engineer, retiring in June 1969 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Brown died on May 12, 2012. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.
