This section features selected images of African Americans in the modern day era.   In this collection are images of J. Paul Reason, who became the first African American to become a four-star admiral in 1996.  Also in this section are images of Michelle J. Howard, who became the first African American female to promoted to a four-star admiral in 2014.  Currently, among the enlisted ranks, African Americans make up seventeen percent of the Navy's total force.
