Instrument of Surrender

Signing of the Instrument of Surrender

Under the direction of the new German leader, Admiral Karl Donitz, General Alfred Jodl signed the Instrument of Surrender on May 7, 1945, at Reims, France.  Due to the complications announced by the Soviet Union, a further signing took place on May 9 by German Field-Marshal Wilhem Keitel.   This date is the one celebrated for V-E Day.  This collection houses imagery from both locations.
