The National Museum of the American Sailor is excited to announce our success with the Illinois Association of Museums earlier this month at their virtual awards ceremony.

We received the "Award of Excellence" for Virtual Materials for our "Remembering the Stories of Pearl Harbor" video. In an effort to continue our mission to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of the United States Navy’s Enlisted Sailor, the National Museum of the American Sailor worked to document the stories of Enlisted Sailors who were present during the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor; which occurred 80 years ago this past year. These stories and memories, as told by family members, share the experiences their loved one faced leading up to, during, and after this historic attack.

Two of NMAS' own were also recipients of awards: the "Award of Distinction" for Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Geoff Bender; while Museum Professional of the Year went to Therese Gonzalez. Both Geoff and Therese have spent countless hours, days, and even years into helping the National Museum of the American Sailor be the best we can be.

Bravo Zulu, or congratulations, to all of the other Illinois museums who also received awards!

The National Museum of the American Sailor won two "Award of Distinctions" and one "Award of Excellence" from the Illinois Association of Museums for Volunteer of the Year, Museum Professional of the Year, and Virtual Materials.
