Bricks and Bluejackets: A LEGO® Event

Virtual competition entries due Friday, August 27!

lego

Calling all LEGO® builders! Each year, the museum hosts a day of LEGO® fun where children of all ages can build Navy-inspired ships, vehicles, and more. The third annual event is back in August 2021.

Due to the rising numbers of COVID-19 and Delta variant cases in our area, the museum has made the difficult decision to cancel the in-person Bricks and Bluejackets event. This decision is made out of an abundance of caution for our young builders, volunteers, and staff.

Despite the cancellation of the in-person event, young builders can still participate in virtual LEGO® building competitions. Please see below for more information about virtual opportunities.

2021 Virtual Competition

Put your creativity to the test! Use your own LEGOs® to create your own unique, Navy-inspired design. Participants are entered for a chance to win a LEGO® Store gift card. Winners will be announced no later than Monday, September 6. Winners will be notified via call or email.

 • Children of all ages may participate in this build competition. Submissions will be divided into appropriate age groups.
 • Designs must be related to the United States Navy (such as ships, naval aviation, or sailors) or Naval Station Great Lakes.
 • Prizes are handed out for first and second place designs in each age group, voted on by a panel of museum staff and volunteers.
 • One prize is awarded for overall "Fan Favorite," voted on by the museum's Facebook followers. Parents may opt for their child's design to not be included in this part of the competition. Please note, all entries uploaded to Facebook will include an image of the LEGO® design with the competitor's first name and last name initial and the child's age (example: John D. Age 7).

To enter, submit a completed Registration Form and 1-2 photographs of your build to nmas.fct@navy.mil. Submissions are due by close of business on Friday, August 27.

Vote for your favorite sailor-built design!

In 2021, the junior sailors of Naval Station Great Lakes got in on the LEGO® fun! Visit the museum's Facebook page between Monday, August 9 and Saturday, August 28 to vote for your favorite sailor-built design. Choose your favorite based on Navy pride, originality, and creativity. Simply 'like' your favorite build to vote.
