Widely used by the Army Air Forces (later the United States Air Force) throughout World War II and the Cold War, a number of A-26 Invaders were were converted to JD-1s for the Navy in 1945. They were used by various utility squadrons to tow targets and perform similar training missions. Some were later redesignated JD-1Ds and equipped to control drones.
