Designed as a carrier-based night fighter, the F3D Skyknight was primarily operated by the Marine Corps during the Korea War, gaining several kills in night engagements and being responsible for the destruction of more enemy aircraft in that conflict than any other Navy/Marine Corps aircraft. After the war, F3Ds were used in the development of air-to-air missiles, and were also converted to electronic warfare aircraft.
