Established in 1918, the Naval Aircraft Factory served to boost and ensure the supply of naval aircraft during World War I. This original insignia once hung over a building at the Naval Aircraft Factory in Philadelphia, the facility’s nearly four decades of aircraft production including work on the NC-4 flying boat, the first plane to fly the Atlantic; the TS-1, the first airplane designed specifically to operate from a carrier; and the famed N3N “Yellow Peril” training plane.
