Kamikaze Mascot Doll

doll
Description: A masukotto ningyo (mascot doll) or imon ningyo (keepsake doll) recovered from the wreckage of a kamikaze aircraft after its pilot crashed into a U.S. Navy ship. The work of Japanese women, in many cases school girls, these dolls were made from scrap cloth and given to Japanese servicemen during World War II. It is though that these dolls were given to kamikaze pilots by wives, mothers, and girlfriends so that they could be with them in spirit on their final flight.
