Description: This is a portrait of Brigadier General Roy S. Geiger, who was Marine Corps’ fifth aviator. A veteran of overseas service in World War I and the “Banana Wars,” Geiger twice commanded all of Marine Corps aviation. During World War II, he led the famed Cactus Air Force during its early service on Guadalcanal and subsequently led amphibious forces in a number of island invasions, including Okinawa, where for a time he commanded Tenth Army, the only Marine to ever command an army in United States military history.
