Caption: The museum’s example of the A6M2 Zero was assembled using components from a number of wrecked aircraft discovered at an abandoned fighter strip on Ballele Island near Bougainville. It is displayed nose-to-nose with the museum’s example of the F4F-3A Wildcat, contrasting it with its U.S. Navy adversary in the first year of the Pacific War.
