Title: S.S. AZALEA CITY (U.S. Troop Transport, 1943-1976)
Caption: The Merchant Freighter AZALEA CITY was allocated to the U.S. Navy prior to her 1943 completion, but was owned throughout the war by the war shipping administration. Photo taken at San Francisco, California, about 1944 showing her outfitted for 1,714 troops. In 1957 she was converted to one of the first container ships under the same name and served until broken up in 1976.
