Description: (French Destroyer, 1936) Underway off Portsmouth, England on 8 August 1939, with French Amiral de la flotte (Admiral of the Fleet) Jean François Darlan embarked. He came to England to confer with British officers concerning Naval dispositions for a prospective war with Germany. Flying from Volta's masthead is Darlan's Amiral de la flotte flag, the French tricolor with crossed anchors in the center. The original print came from the Office of Naval Intelligence.
