Tunisien

Crosley (DE-108), a Cannon-class destroyer escort laid down on 6 June 1943 at Wilmington, Del., by the Dravo Corp., was slated for transfer to France on 11 February 1944; renamed Tunisien; and launched on 17 February 1944. Operating with the French Navy, she escorted a convoy carrying French troops for the assault on Toulon as a part of Operation "Dragoon," the invasion of southern France in August 1944. Later that year, she was with Convoy UGS-40 when it was attacked by more than 20 German bombers 50 miles east of Algiers on the evening of 11 May. Tunisien was permanently transferred to France under the Mutual Defense Assistance Program on 21 April 1952.
