Title: MARCO POLO (Italian transport, 1892-1922)
Caption: Photographed on 16 June 1917 at Venice. Built as an armored cruiser, this ship was converted to this role during 1916-17 and renamed CORTELLAZZO on 4 April 1918; EUROPA on 1 October 1920; and VOLTA on 16 January 1921. Note the indentation in the ship's side where the 100 mm. armor belt was removed.
