80-G-49573 Panama Canal

Panama Canal
Title: Panama Canal
Caption: 124' in width, as against 110' spar of the Panama Canal, the 18,000 ton capacity Navy floating drydock was passed from one Ocean to another by a plan careening the dock on its beam end towing it through. The plan conserved and directed by Naval Civil Eng. Corps and carried out by CB's. Overhead view of the mammoth dock as it was careened to 90 degrees. Note how the welded steel pontoons provide stabilization to the dock-enabling it to withstand a 110-mile wind without capsizing. 25 June 1945.
