SBN-1 Scout bomber
Title: SBN-1 Scout bomber
Caption: 12 February 1942, the first SBN-1 scout bomber(BUNO 1522) produced by the naval aircraft factory, in flight over Washington. Manufactured between 1940 and 1942, the SBN was the production version of the XSBA-1 designed by Brewster in 1934. The prototype flew in 1936, and in 1938 thirty SBN-1's were ordered from NAF. Never used in combat, the SBN served as a "stateside" trainer. It equipped VT-8, the famous "torpedo eight", in 1941 while that squadron was working up before reporting on board carrier hornet. The SBN illustrated is wearing the overall light gray pre- World War II camouflage ordered on 30 December 1940 and used until October 1941.
