NHF-110 Hirosi Saito Funeral Album Collection

Oversize photo album depicting the funeral of Japanese Ambassador to the United States Hirosi Saito in April 1939. Saito was cremated and his ashes returned to Japan on board the cruiser USS Astoria (CA-34). His ashes were returned to Yokohama for an elaborate funeral. Shown also are scenes on board Astoria and around Yokohama, as well as Japanese dignitaries. American naval officers shown include Captain Richmond Kelly Turner and Captain Harold Bemis. Album binding is broken, and pages are extremely fragile.
