2017.25 Janet Simmons Collection

Collection of six b/w photographs related to the naval service of John Leonard Newton Scrogham, Boatswain’s Mate Second Class, circa 1939. Scrogham’s first assignment was service aboard USS Sequoia (presidential yacht, though in 1939 it was the yacht of the Secretary of the Navy). The collection includes an image of the ship as well as one of its crew (which includes Scrogham). Also included is a portrait of Scrogham. His discharge papers note that he also served aboard USS Ranger and USS Missouri, (a 1939 image of USS Ranger is also included in the collection).
