S-096 USS North Dakota Collection

Scrapbook containing approximately 150 postcards related to battleship USS North Dakota (BB-29), circa 1920s, transferred by Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, NH. Many of these postcards appear to be mass produced. Large number of scenes ashore at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, including firing range, and showing bent 4” gun of USS Monongahela on display; other scenes ashore in Europe including Spain, Greece, Gibraltar, Turkey, Italy. Explosion of motor on board North Dakota’s motor sailor launch at Annapolis in 1920. Casket containing body of Italian Ambassador to the United States Vincenzo Macchi di Cellere being hoisted on board North Dakota at Hampton Roads, Virginia, November 1919. Boxing scenes with Jack Dempsey versus Jess Willard. Other ships seen include USS Connecticut (BB-18), USS South Carolina (BB-26), USS Oklahoma (BB-37), USS Florida (BB-30), USS Utah (BB-31), USS Mississippi (BB-23), USS Minnesota (BB-22), USS Pennsylvania (BB-38), USS Michigan (BB-27), USS Delaware (BB-28), USS New York (BB-34), USS Texas (BB-35), USS New Mexico (BB-40), USS Wyoming (BB-32), USS Nevada (BB-36), USS New Hampshire (BB-25), USS Louisiana (BB-19), USS Kansas (BB-21), USS Sharkey (DD-281), as well as a few Italian and British warships.
