Description: Collection of photographs related to the aviation career of Vice Admiral Frederick “Nappy” Kivette. Kivette was in the first Pensacola Class ’25 and became a fighter pilot; he was also in the stunt section of the VF-1 – the “High Hat Squadron” (predecessor of the Blue Angeles) and then in the “Belly Bumpers” (HTA unit on the Macon and Akron). Subjects include group photos of Frank O’Beirne, Charles Lindberg, & Frederick “Nappy” Kivette (Leslie E. Gehres is in one photo); various aviators from USS Macon in 1934; group photo of Arleigh Burke & Nappy Kivette; USS Macon HTA Unit at Moffett Field, California (c. 1933-1934); USS Akron HTA Unit (c 1932-1933); President Eisenhower with “Nappy”, 1960-1961; insignia for USS Akron and later Macon HTA unit (1932) – “Belly Bumpers”; Pensacola graduation class of 1925; Nappy flying a Curtiss F9C-2 Sparrowhawk; three members of the High Hat Squadron – O’Beirne, Gehres & Kivette; High Hat squadron flying F2B aircraft; ejection of an aviator due to fire aboard aircraft; an inverted landing made by “Nappy”, 1933; portrait of “Nappy” in a high hat; and several group photos of aviators, 1927-1928.
