Title: Robert Bailey Connelly, Jr. Photo Collection
Description: Collection of 189 images from CAPT Bailey Connelly, Commanding Officer of USS Dauphin (APA-97) during WWII. The images from this collection follow the USS Dauphin during WWII, beginning with launching ceremonies in June of 1944 and then reporting to Newport, RI in October of 1944 and then to Newport, VA in January of 1945. The ship conducted transport missions from Saipan to San Francisco in May of 1945 and a week later was underway for the Philippines. From 27 June until the end of the war she carried troops from new Guinea to the Philippines. USS Dauphin anchored in Tokyo Bay the day of surrender, 2 September, and from 4 September to 27 October made found similar voyages carrying troops from the Philippines to Japan. She made two voyages carrying home veterans from Sasebo, Japan and San Pedro Bay, Leyte, between 6 November 1945 and 17 January 1946 (Operation Magic Carpet). A description of the images that follow this timeline can be found below. Also included are various undefined locations as well as several images of CAPT Connelly as captain of the USS Dauphin from 1944-1946.
