A few seconds ago the small Japanese freighter was plowing along the surface of the empty sea. Suddenly there bursts out of the depth close aboard her, an American submarine. Before the water has sluiced from her decks, while her colors still shake off the drops, blue men in steel vomit from her bridge, man her guns, start firing point blank at the surprise ship -- too small to waste a "fish" on.
