SECNAV, CNO Celebrate Centennial Anniversary

11 May 2015, secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Johnathan Greenert, along with prior CNO's, service members and civilians gathered at the Navy Museum at the Washington Navy Yard to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the appointment of the first CNO and the creation of the office of the chief of naval operations May 11, 2015.

 


To enter the Washington Navy Yard and visit the National Museum of the United States Navy, visitors must have either a Department of Defense Common Access Card; an Active Military, Retired Military, or Military Dependent ID; or an escort with one of these credentials. All visitors 18 and older must have a photo ID.

Museum staff are not permitted to escort visitors on weekends, but may be able to do so on weekdays. Contact us for help with accessing the museum at (202) 433-4882. Please note that the base security protocol can change without notice.

Hours of Operation

U.S. Navy Museum and
Cold War Gallery

The National Museum of the United States Navy and the Cold War Gallery are normally open 9-5 Monday through Friday. 
The National Museum is normally open on week-ends and holidays from 10am-5pm for those who have DOD CAC ID's or retired Military ID cards. Visitors without military credentials will need to be vetted by the visitor center at 11th and O Streets SE prior to entry Monday through Friday. All adults will need a photo ID for base access.

Cold War Gallery

Mon-Fri: 9am to 5pm
Weekends and Holidays 10am-5pm

*The National Museum of the United States Navy and Cold War Gallery closes on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Please be aware that we are a Government Agency, if there are any delays or closures within the Government we will follow under alternate schedule. Contact for details.
