Few inventions have moved human imagination as much as airships. With the ability to move faster than ships in the water and stay up in the air longer than fixed wing aircraft, the U.S. Navy’s airship community had unbridled optimism about their vessels. Even in the face of disasters and failures, this community of dreamers always believed that the airship could serve the Fleet in ways that no other platform could.

Join us at the National Museum of the United States Navy on Saturday, March 2 for the opening of our newest exhibit, “The Future is Now: The Navy’s Lighter than Airships.” Discover how the cloud giants were constructed, their roles in war and popular culture, and track the journeys and ultimate fates of specific airships, like USS Macon and USS Los Angeles.

The future is now! Navy Airships opens March 2nd, 2024
