Description: Based on its size this plate, from USS San Diego (Armored Cruiser No. 6), was likely used for salad or sides. The pattern indicates that it was used in the wardroom mess. There are two maker’s marks on the reverse side, one in green that reads “MAYER CHINA MADE FOR JAS. M. SHAW & CO N.Y.” and a transparent one, possibly the remains of an ink stamp, that reads “JAMES M. SHAW & CO NEW YORK
