Scabbard Hook, USS San Diego, #2017-008-003

<p>The scabbard hook is a brass, oval-shaped tube with fragments of leather and thread sticking out of one end. There is raised decorative braiding around the center of the scabbard hook, with a brass ring attached to it.</p>

Description: This upper scabbard hook from a U.S. naval officer’s sword was recovered from USS San Diego (Armored Cruiser No. 6). Naval officer swords began production during the Civil War and the design for them has not changed much since then. These particular swords would have been worn with dress uniforms.
