Slept late and did not go to church. Badger, Mayo, Pratt, and Belknap came to dinner to discuss proposition for ships to go to England. They thought either T.S. Rogers or Hugh Rodman should go and on the ground of seniority proposed Rogers, saying there was not much difference. Later I sent for Palmer and decided to send Rodman. . . .
