August 16, 1898,       

          President has ordered return of Revenue Cutters to Treasury Department.1 They will receive Grant at Port Townsend. Perry at Astoria, Rush at San Francisco, Corwin at San Diego. Have articles belonging to the Navy removed from these vessels; Grant and Perry at Bremerton; Rush and Corwin at Mare Island Yard, and then order vessels to proceed to places designated and report to treasury. Grant at Sitka; send her orders by first steamer.
