Zita (S. P. 21)

1917

The Navy retained the name carried by this vessel at the time of her inspection.

(S. P. 21:displacement 7; length 40'0"; beam 11'0"; draft 2'4" (mean); speed 11.0 knots; complement 6; armament 1 1-pounder)

Zita -- a wooden-hulled motor boat built in 1916 at Brooklyn, N.Y., by Charles Johnson -- was owned by H. E. Boucher, of Brooklyn, in 1917 at the time of her inspection by the Navy in the Third Naval District.

Records concerning this craft are sparse, but they show that the Navy assigned the identification number S. P. 21 to the boat and slated her for patrol duties in the Third Naval District. However, the extant records do not reveal either the length or the character of her service, nor do they tell whether or not Zita was ever commissioned.
