Wenatchee II (YTB-808)

1970 - 

While the first Wenatchee (ATF-118) was named "in accordance with the [Navy] Department's policy of assigning names of [Native American] tribes to vessels of this type," the second Wenatchee (YTB-808) was named for the city of Wenatchee, Washington, "in accordance with the Navy's policy of assigning [Native American] names of cities to this large type of service craft."

The second Wenatchee (YTB-808), a large diesel-engined single-screw tug, was laid down on 24 November 1969 at Sturgeon Bay, Wis., by Peterson Builders, Inc.; launched on 7 July 1970; delivered to the Navy on 21 December 1970 and placed in service on Christmas Day 1970.

This powerful new seagoing vessel, equipped to provide emergency rescue services, and specially configured to enable them to berth and dock aircraft carriers and submarines, was assigned to the Eleventh Naval District and operated at San Diego, Calif. Subsequently, she was reassigned to operate at Bremerton, Washington, remaining active there into the 21st Century.
